Nordic Seminar: Sustainable procurement in public kitchens

Nordic seminar and workshops 23.-24.10.2014 in Helsinki, Finland. Welcome to innovate and exchange ideas for sustainable food procurement in public kitchens in Nordic countries. Robert Pederson from ARC 2020 is the keynote speaker at Nordic seminar’s dinner Thursday 23rd October.

The seminar and workshops are targeted for Nordic food service experts, decision makers, public procurement experts, purchasers and food companies.

The focus of the seminar and the workshops is to represent the Nordic and European perspective for public food procurement and share best practices in procurement of sustainable food and procurement in public kitchens.

Themes of the seminar will be for example the reform of the national procurement law, environmental criteria in sustainable food procurement and economic impact of local food. After the presentations these themes will be discussed and deepened in workshops.

Robert Pederson from ARC 2020 is our keynote speaker at Nordic seminar’s dinner Thursday 23.10.2014. Pederson is Food Policy Coordinator at ARC 2020. The main focus of this work to advocate for a healthy, equitable, sustainable food system in the context of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).In his presentation, "The power of public procurement – transition to sustainable food systems”, Robert will provide an overview of the potential of public procurement to facilitate transition to more sustainable, equitable and healthy food systems, set against the context of current constraints and opportunities in EU Food Policy. 

The seminar is organised by Sustainable Procurement - project (Ekocentria) and New Nordic Food II.

Pre-seminar excursions on the 23.10.2014:
We have organised two pre-seminar excursions for the Thursday 23.10.2014.

11:00-13:00 nursery/ school (max. 15 persons) - Representing the Finnish school meal system, food procurement and use of local and organic food in public kitchens. Find more about the Finnish school meal system here - meeting point: Kilta-Sali, Lapinrinne 1. Bus transportation will be organized.

15:00-17:00 Parliament of Finland (max. 15 persons) - Representeing the parliament’s Food Club, Finland’s government program on Local Food and Goverment development program for the Organic product sector, the importance of strategic decision making in promoting the procurement and use of local food. Also the caterer Fazer Amica’s catering service represents their procurement systemof local and organic food. - meeting point: Parliament of Finland (Mannerheimintie 39, Helsinki), main entrance.
